Toni Katic is a new player for JDA Dijon, the team announced Thursday.
Joshiko Saibou, an offseason addition to the French side, will be out for the next two months due to a right knee injury. With the German international sidelined, Dijon brought in the Croatian point guard to cover the spot on the roster of the team led by Nenad Markovic.
Katic, 29, arrived in Dijon on Wednesday. Pending medicals, he will be soon officially cleared to join La Jeanne and return to the Basketball Champions League Regular Season after his seven appearances as a member of Dinamo Sassari in 2020-21. He was also part of the 2021-22 Qualifiers helping U-Banca Transilvania Cluj-Napoca advance to the Regular Season with 14.0 points, 3.0 assists, and 2.3 assists per contest.
The experienced point guard played for Cibona, Cedevita, Siroki, and Split before moving to Sassari.
Sek Henry, Rashard Kelly, and Gavin Ware were the other offseason additions for Dijon, apart from Saibou. Along with Katic, they partnered up with returning players Chase Simon, Charles Galliou, Robin Ducote, Abdoulaye Loum, Jacques Alingue, and David Holston.
Dijon will face Nizhny Novgorod, Unicaja Malaga, and Lavrio Megabolt in Group C of the Champions Regular Season scheduled to start next week. The top team will advance to the next round, while the second and third teams will advance to the play-ins.
Just prior to the opening week of the BCL, the 2021-22 campaign for Dijon will tip-off tomorrow, on Friday. The home game versus newly-promoted Paris will launch its campaign in France’s Betclic Elite Regular Season.
