Falco Szombathely kept the majority of its team over the summer while AEK, on the contrary, went through huge changes and the duel between the two belonged to the Hungarian squad with 83-78 on the scoreboard.
Zoltan Perl stood out for the winning team with game-high 21 points, six assists, and five rebounds followed by Boris Barac who scored 15 and Szilard Benke who logged 16 points.
On the opposing side, Nikos Pappas had 20 points, despite not having a great time shooting from deep (1-8). Eric Griffin added 16 and Braian Angola 17 points.
It was a fairly balanced game all the way through, however, Falco’s bench performed better and coupled with their slight advantage in the paint, the hosts managed to creat a ten-point lead early in the fourth quarter (76-65).
AEK tried to spark a comeback, grasping at straws until the final seconds but it was too late to change the outcome, although they did have a shot at overtime as Pappas missed yet another shot from the three-point territory.
