Falco Szombathely took care of business and advanced to the Round of 16 after defeating VEF Riga 68-59 at home.
Falco goes directly to the next stage of the Basketball Champions League with a 5-1 record from the top of Group D while Nutribullet Treviso (4-2) and VEF Riga (2-4). AEK was eliminated with 1-5.
Boris Barac led the way with 16 points and seven rebounds while Zoltan Perl scored 11. Benedek Varadi put on an all-around performance with nine points, eight assists, five rebounds.
For Riga, Ron Curry had 13 points, five boards, five assists while Raivo Butirins delivered 12 points and eight boards.
Riga was the team with a better start to the game and was up by a 15-point margin in the second quarter (36-21), however, Falco bounced back and took the lead at the start of the fourth quarter (55-52). The sides stayed close but Marvin Clark’s three-pointer and Varadi’s follow-up two sealed the deal.
