VEF Riga managed to reach the Basketball Champions League Play-In series, eliminating AEK, and the team decided to add some reinforcement before the next phase begins.
The 33-year-old American big played in Israel last season for Elitzur Yavne in the second division, averaging 20.6 points and 12.4 rebounds.
Previously, Hassell had spent five years in France with Boulazac, Le Portel, and Cholet. In 2012-13 with Hapoel Holon, he was the FIBA Eurochallenge leading scorer and rebounder, as well as the leading rebounder in the Israeli League.
