Although SIG Strasbourg gambled away a double-digit lead, the French squad still managed to prevail over Rytas Vilnius on the road in a close finish with 76-71 on the scoreboard.
Strasbourg improved to a 1-0 record together with Lenovo Tenerife in Group L which has been the only group with a full schedule this week. Rytas and Falco Szombathely found themselves on the losing side.
John Roberson led the way for Strasbourg with 16 points on 4-10 from deep including a crucial three-pointer at 50 seconds remaining for a 74-71 lead. He also dished out a couple of assists in crunch time.
Yannis Morin added 12 and Matt Mitchell 11 points for the victors. On the home team’s roster, Ivan Buva logged game-high 20 points and seven rebounds while Arnas Butkevicius scored 14 and Speedy Smith 13 points.
An interesting fact of the match was the difference in free throws, as Strasbourg shot only two and both in the last quarter. That said, the winners created their advantage off turnovers, scoring 23 points after forcing their opponent to lose the ball.
