Ukrainian team Prometey will be moving the men squad to the Czech Republic and the women squad to Bulgaria for the next two weeks in light of the threat of a potential imminent invasion by Russia into Ukraine, club president Volodymyr Dubinsky announced.

Dubinsky wrote on his Facebook that all players will be staying with the team, including foreign players. “They have expressed their full support for the club and the desire to continue their careers with Prometey. Nobody is planning to terminate their contract with the club and everyone looks to winning the upcoming Basketball Champions League games and getting to the quarterfinals of the most prestigious tournament in Europe.”

This temporary relocation will take place right after Prometey’s Ukrainian league game vs. the Cherkasy Monkeys Sunday (13/2). When it comes to the Basketball Champions League, Prometey’s next match is scheduled for March 3, with the team hosting Romanian side Cluj Napoca for Gameday 2 of the Round of 16 stage.

“I told this to players and everyone: We shouldn’t panic at this time and we need to be as close as possible,” Dubinsky mentioned. “Me and all members of my family, including children and parents aren’t going anywhere and not running away because I’m sure that everything will be fine and everything will be in Ukraine.”

The White House has issued a warning to all U.S. citizens to leave Ukraine immediately. “The Russians are in a position to mount an invasion any day now,” said US National Security Adviser Jake Sullivan. “We are not saying that a decision has been taken by President Putin. What we are saying is that we have a sufficient level of concern.”
