Ukrainian side Prometey is exiting Basketball Champions League, club president Volodymyr Dubinsky announced Saturday, Oleksandr Proshuta reports.
All Prometey sports departments (two basketball clubs, plus youth and women’s volleyball departments) are disbanded following the Russian invasion of Ukrainian territory.
“All money & resources should go to the army. Win first. Then everything”, commented Dubinskyi per the report.
In its inaugural Basketball Champions League campaign, Prometey stepped up quickly as underdogs, reaching the Round of 16.
Prior to the decision to withdraw from the competition, the Ukrainian side was placed second in Group K, holding a 2-1 record with an upset over Spanish powerhouse Unicaja and a victory over Filou Oostende on the road in early February.
