Hapoel U-NET Holon started off the Basketball Champions League quarterfinals with a comfortable 93-75 home win against SIG Strasbourg in Game 1.
Perhaps an unexpectedly huge margin, considering Hapoel has played many close games this season and in a fair amount of them, chased comebacks from behind. This time around, though, they were ahead throughout all 40 minutes and were up by 16 already in the second quarter.
Bench, turnovers, second-chance points, and above all three-point shooting are what decided the outcome of the game and the reason for such a convincing win for the Israelis.
Hapoel banked in ten shots from deep while Strasbourg answered with only three, although they also made almost two times fewer attempts.
Chris Johnson was the leading force behind Hapoel’s effort with 18 points and nine rebounds while Joe Ragland was amazing with 12 points and 12 assists, showing off his playmaking skills once again. His highest assist tally this season in BCL is 14.
Michale Kyser helped out with 15 points while on the opposing team, Matt Mitchell had 18 in addition to Kameron Taylor’s 16 and Jordan Howard’s 14 points. Yannis Morin logged 12 points, nine rebounds.
