With Karsiyaka not making it to the BCL Final Four after losing in the playoffs to eventual champions Lenovo Tenerife and the club finishing 7th in the regular season of the Turkish BSL, coach Ufuk Sarica seemed to be on the hot seat.
However, that was not the case, nor were the rumors about Gran Canaria flirting with the Turkish coach.
Karsıyaka President Turgay Buyukkarcı, in a statement on his Twitter account, denied that there was any possibility for this to happen and announced a three-year contract extension for Sarica, starting this summer until 2025.
As he wrote: “The news about our coach Ufuk Sarica does not reflect the truth. I have bad news for those who claim otherwise, and good news for our community; 3 more years with us”.
The 49-years old coach remains an iconic figure for Turkish basketball having played or coached Efes, Besiktas, Darussafaka, the Turkish national team, and of course Karsiyaka.
With his current club, he has previously won the Turkish Cup, President’s Cup, and League championships between 2012 and 2016.
