Dimitris Priftis has been appointed as the new Tofas head coach with a three-year deal, the Turkish club officially announced Thursday.
Priftis, 53, last served as a head coach of Panathinaikos OPAP Athens during the 2021-22 season, competing both in EuroLeague and the Greek Basket League. This will be his first experience in Turkey.
The Greek playcaller began his career as an assistant coach in women’s basketball in Greece, before moving to AEK men’s basketball in 2003, where he stayed until 2009.
Ever since, he has served as an assistant for Aris Thessaloniki and Panathinaikos, before taking on head coach duties in the recent years. In 2017, he moved to UNICS Kazan and his stint came to an end in 2021.
Priftis has also been an assistant coach for the Greek national team across two stints, 2008-2012 and 2014-2016.
