Hapoel U-NET Holon and Guy Pnini parted ways, the team announced Tuesday.
“It was a crazy road from winning the Cup to reaching the Basketball Champions League Final Four and of course the biggest moment, winning the championship,” Pnini described the high points of the five-year stint, “But beyond those titles, I got another family. From day one, I got a lot of love and support.”
Pnini, 38, went on to thank management and fans in an emotional farewell. Since joining the Holon outfit in 2017, the team has enjoyed solid campaigns in the Basketball Champions League, including participating in the Final Eight and Final Four the last two campaigns. Domestically, this season Holon was crowned champion in Israel’s Winner League for the second time in team history and in 2018 edged out Maccabi Tel Aviv to lift the State Cup.
Moving toward the end of his playing career, he will return to Maccabi, as reported by Walla’s Arale Weisberg. The experienced small forward previously spent eight seasons at the Tel Aviv powerhouse, from 2009 to 2017. He was part of the Maccabi Electra Tel Aviv championship run to the 2013-14 Turkish Airlines Euroleague title.
The 2021-22 season saw Pnini produce 4.7 points, 2.6 assists, and 2.3 rebounds per BCL contest. Registering 5.1 points, 2.5 assists, and 1.9 rebounds per game helped Holon go all the way at the domestic level and himself to the fourth league championship of his career following the triumphs in 2011, 2012, and 2014 with Maccabi.
