Chinanu Onuaku has signed a contract with Dinamo Sassari for next season, as the president of the club Stefano Sardara announced. After multiple workouts in the USA by NBA teams, the 37th pick of the 2016 returns to Europe, where there was an offer made by Zenit St. Petersburg.
However, Onuaku decided to move to Italy and he will have the chance to showcase his talent on a continental level by playing in the Basketball Champions League. There was also EuroLeague interest for the player, which was never translated to a solid offer.
Overall in 2021-22, Onuaku averaged 15.7 points, 9.7 rebounds, 2.7 assists and 1.7 assists in the Winner League regular season, along with 17.4 points, 11.9 rebounds, 3.4 assists and 1.6 steals in the playoffs to lead Herzliya to the Finals.
Onuaku played six NBA games with the Houston Rockets from 2016 to 2018 before moving to Europe.
VEF Riga tabs Gerry Blakes, Nymburk parts ways with Sekulic
More Champions League news spilling in as VEF Riga signed 28-year-old American guard Gerry Blakes for the next season and MHP Riesen Ludwigsburg picked up 17-year-old guard Sebastian Hartmann from the junior team of FC Bayern Munich.
Also, ERA Nymburk announced the departure of head coach Aleksander Sekulic. The 44-year-old Slovenian tactician will take over Lokomotiv Kuban, as noted by the Czech Republic champions.
Following the Qualifying rounds scheduled to be held in late September, the 2022-23 BCL Regular Season will take over with action tipping off on 3 October.
