Melvin Ejim and Unicaja join their paths again

Melvin Ejim is back with Unicaja Malaga with a one-year contract, as the club has officially announced.

Per the press release: “The Club has reached an agreement in principle for the incorporation of power forward Melvin Ejim (31 years old, 2.01 meters) for next season. A player who was already under the Malaga roster in the 2019-20 season, where he left samples of his talent and professionalism.

Born in Toronto (Canada), Ejim also has Nigerian nationality. He is a versatile player who can alternate the positions of small forward and power forward and who provides a good outside shot, as well as a notable physical presence.

His beginnings took place in the North American university league (NCAA) in the ranks of Iowa State. From there, he made the leap to Europe in the 2014-15 season, as part of the Italian Virtus Acea Roma. In the summer of 2015, he signed with the Orlando Magic of the NBA, joining the Erie Bay Hawks (D-League) in October. His good performance led him to return to Italian basketball in March 2016 at the hands of Umana Reyer Venice. There he continued one more year, winning the League title with the Venetian team in 2016-17 and being chosen as the MVP of the final.

Later, he signed for the Russian team UNICS Kazan, where he played for two seasons, reaching the semi-finals of the VTB United League.

His performances motivated his signing for Unicaja in the 2019-20 season, in which he played 29 games, averaging 6.8 points (62.7% shooting 2) and 3.2 rebounds in just 17 minutes. throughout the three competitions he played (Endesa League, Eurocup, and Copa del Rey).

After passing through Malaga, he signed for the Montenegrin Buducnost Podgorica (2020-21, where he won the league) and, the following year, he joined the Slovenian Cedevita Olimpija Ljubljana, with whom he also played the Eurocup. In this last course, he averaged 8.9 points, 4.6 rebounds, and 1.3 assists with a 38.7% success rate in three-pointers in European competition”.
