Two teams with a long Basketball Champions League history faced each other and ultimately the hosts. SIG Strasbourg edged Falco Szombathely for the 81-78 win as Zoltan Perl missed the chance almost at the buzzer to send the Group A game to overtime.
Marcus Keene and DeAndre Lansdowne with 20 points each plus Matt Mitchell (photo) with 17 saved the day for the French side. However, Keene missed one of two crucial free throws with 10 seconds left that gave Perl hope for the last shot.
Boris Barac came from the bench and was the top scorer of the guests with 17 points, while Perl and Akos Keller added 13 points each.
Falco closed the first half leading by two, but Strasbourg turn things around in the third period. The hosts ended the last quarter leading by three (56-53) and while Falco again got a one-point advantage (68-67), they closed the game the right way.
