Heading to a pivotal win-or-go-home Basketball Champions League contest, PAOK mateco brought in a familiar face.
Dimitris Kaklamanakis inked a contract for the remainder of the 2022-23 season, the team announced Friday evening. Also, Promitheas announced his departure.
Kaklamanakis, 28, spent the 2020-21 season at the team based in Thessaloniki, after playing for AEK in the 2019-20 season. Following PAOK, he reunited with Lavrio Megabolt for a second stint stretching throughout the 2021-22 season and moved to Promitheas to start the current season.
Steadily falling out of favor at the Patras outfit, he ended up with 2.2 points and 2.2 rebounds per game over nine appearances debuting in the 7DAYS EuroCup. In addition, he packed 5.7 points per contest over 12 games played in the 2022-23 edition of Greece’s Basket League.
Shifting to the team coached by Aris Lykogiannis, PAOK is looking into Game 3 of the best-of-three series opposite reigning champion of Lithuania’s Betsafe LKL Rytas. A ticket to the Champions League’s Round of 16 awaits the winner. Beyond possibly extending the continental campaign, the current 7-4 record is good enough for a tie in the third spot of the Greek top-tier division standings behind powerhouses Olympiacos and Panathinaikos.
The experienced Greek center previously appeared in 20 BCL games between the lasting original of the continental competition AEK and the two spells at Lavrio.
Representing Greece at the international level, he earned caps in the 2019 and 2023 FIBA World Cup Qualifiers, and 2022 EuroBasket Qualifiers.
