Hitting an overtime buzzer-beater, Bryce Jones lifted Limoges CSP to the win, 96-94, against MHP Riesen Ludwigsburg in Game 3 of the Basketball Champions League Play-In best-of-three series Wednesday.
Jones, 28, previously forced five extra minutes with a late step back tying up the game 86-86. Adding eight points in overtime, including the game-winner, shaped a game-high 26 points to go along with nine assists at MHPArena.
Failing to contain the hosts, the team coached by Massimo Cancellieri was forced into a 22-point deficit during the second quarter. But steadily cut into the deficit to Jones finally knotting everything up with 14 seconds left in regulation. Securing a spot in the next round of the BCL and completing Group K of the Round of 16, Galatasaray Nef, Unicaja, and AEK are the teams to beat in the following round-robin double-legged schedule.
Former Buffalo standout Jayvon Graves chipped in 24 points, a new personal best for the 2022-23 season. Mathieu Wojciechowski added 15 more points. On an injury note, Seton Hall alumni Desi Rodriguez was recently sidelined for the next six weeks and will miss most of the next round.
Despite making 18 of the first 30 field goals to grow the big lead, the team coached by Josh King did not hold on to what seemed a comfortable and series-clinching advantage in a quick turnaround from the impressive home win against FC Bayern Munich to improve to 9-5 in Germany’s easyCredit BBL Sunday.
Youngster Jacob Patrick filing a career-high 18 points was not enough. Notre Dame product Prentiss Hubb neared his own career-high with 24 points and also dished out nine assists in the losing effort. Yorman Polas Bartolo finished with 16 points.
