Unstoppable Telekom Baskets Bonn strengthened the bid to qualify for the Final Four of the Basketball Champions League with the 85-75 victory versus BAXI Manresa Tuesday.
Recently returning to Bonn for a second stint, Javontae Hawkins booked a team-high 17 points with 13 points in the second half as his side kept on responding to comeback bids and retaining a safe advantage. T. J. Shorts II posted a 13-point, 10-assist double-double in the Basketball Champions League Round of 16 Gameday 5 contest.
Tucking in four of the nine home three-pointers of the night, Sebastian Herrera registered 12 points. Karsten Tadda added 12 more points and Finn Delany had 11 points. On the sidelines, Tyson Ward and Jeremy Morgan were both unavailable.
Jumping to 5-0 in Group J combined with entering the Round of 16 with a five-game winning streak, Tuomas Iisalo’s side became the third team with at least ten straight wins in the BCL. The 13th consecutive win between continental and domestic competitions secured home-court advantage in the Quarterfinals best-of-three series leading to the season-ending Final Four. Bonn also leads Germany’s easyCredit BBL with a 21-2 record.
The visitors at Telekom Dome were forced down to 3-2 in the four-team group. However, they will clinch a berth in the Quarterfinals if eliminated Bahcesehir Koleji takes down Rytas tomorrow, Wednesday. Guided by Pedro Martinez, Bilbao was coming off five straight BCL wins on the road, including in all four previous trips in the 2022-23 season.
Jerrick Harding registered a game-high 21 points behind 8/11 field goals in the losing effort in Germany. Devin Robinson followed with 15 points. Adam Waczynski stayed on the injury list.
