After losing Game 1 at home, Telekom Baskets Bonn managed to tie things up in the Basketball Champions League Quarter-Finals best-of-three series against SIG Strasbourg, by beating the French team 76-66 in Game 2 on the road.
Following the victory, the head coach of the German side Tuomas Iisalo pointed out several topics. “Our team is full of mentality monsters, and this comes from our recruiting, but also from our daily work, which is more difficult than the games. In the games, you don’t have anything to stress about because you’ve been in the deep end. That’s a testament to both our guys and our training process”, the Finnish head coach said about Telekom Baskets Bonn’s mentality.
“We’ve had difficult losses this season. All of our losses have been very narrow: our biggest one was by five points. We are now 36-5 in all competitions, so there are a lot of reasons to be confident. At the same time, we know we are facing a very good opponent in Strasbourg, which is playing high-level basketball in the BCL. We know we’re gonna have a really difficult game at home next Tuesday”, he commented about the performances of his team all throughout the year.
“It’s something incredible that we’ve been able to create with our fanbase over in Bonn. This is something unique, you still them singing over there, over 400 people traveling for a game over here. The type of emotions that our team and fans can generate together is something unique, and something that gives also the players the purpose to keep working hard”, Tuomas Iisalo said about Telekom Baskets Bonn’s fanbase and their strength with the team.
“Like anything in life, there’s no individual performance. We’re all doing it together here: team, staff, management, club, fans, and the city of Bonn. It’s a wonderful feeling in this world nowadays where the individual is celebrated, to be doing something as a group and as a big whole”, he finally stated.
