Blowing up a close game with effective offense in the second half, Unicaja bested ACB rival UCAM Murcia, 96-74, to sweep the Basketball Champions League Playoffs best-of-three series Wednesday.
Dario Brizuela logged seven of his game-high 17 points in the fourth quarter and knocked in three of his side’s 12/25 three-pointers in Palacio de Deportes de Murcia. David Kravish contributed 16 points, six rebounds, and three assists for a game-high efficiency rating of 21. Kendrick Perry piled up 13 points, including seven points in the pivotal third quarter of Game 2 of the Quarterfinals.
After falling narrowly short of reaching the Final Four in the first Champions League campaign last season, the Malaga outfit bounced back in style emerging as the first entry in the season-ending tournament of the 2022-23 season. Potentially welcoming the remaining contenders in Palacio de Deportes Jose Maria Martin Carpena would be an added bonus.
The 2023 Copa del Rey champion achieving a sixth win in a row across all competitions did not feature Alberto Diaz. The Spanish guard suffering a left ankle injury recently joined Augusto Lima on the list of unavailable players for the team coached by Ibon Navarro.
For the team guided by Sito Alonso, James Anderson finished with a team-high 12 points. Sadiel Rojas and Travis Trice tallied ten points each. Newcomer Chris Chiozza combined his Universitarios debut with his first BCL appearance and scored eight points over 21 minutes. Rati Andronikashvili and Ryan Luther did not dress.
