During Game 2 of the 2023 Basketball Champions League Quarter-Finals series between AEK and Hapoel Jerusalem, won by the Greek side 94-78, incidents occurred between the fans in the stands of the Ano Liosia Olympic Hall. The BCL released an official press release on the case:
“Following the incidents that took place during the QF game between AEK Athens and Hapoel Jerusalem, the BCL Single Judge has opened Disciplinary Proceedings whose outcome will be communicated to all relevant parties once the process has been concluded. The BCL condemns all instances of violence inside our sports arenas and reaffirms that the safety of fans attending BCL games remains our priority. The BCL will continue to work with all clubs in order to safeguard the best possible conditions and clubs that are unable to provide such a safe environment will be sanctioned accordingly”.
Following Hapoel Jerusalem announcing a complaint filed to FIBA, AEK wrote an official press release to apologize for what happened in Athens. “AEK BC apologized to Hapoel Jerusalem and their fans who traveled from Israel about the turmoil during the last night’s game at Ano Liosia Olympic Hall. Those hooligans don’t belong to AEK fans. They made huge damage to our arena”, the press release says.
Waiting for the official outcome following the Basketball Champions League Disciplinary Proceedings opened by the Single Judge, the decisive Game 3 of the Quarter-Finals series between AEK and Hapoel Jerusalem is set to take place in Israel on April 19 at 18:00 CET.
