Earlier in the day, the Basketball Champions League announced that its Single Judge imposed sanctions on AEK for the 2023-24 season following the incidents that occurred in Athens during Game 2 of the competition’s Quarter-Finals Game 2 against Hapoel Jerusalem.
Ahead of Game 3, which will be played in Israel on April 19 at 18:00 CET, both the Greek and Israeli Basketball Federation, through the words of their respective Presidents Vangelis Liolios and Amiram Halevy, issued a statement requesting peace between the two sides.
“We would like to propose that we, as Presidents of the two Basketball Federations, make a commons statement in favor of the values that our sports stand for. Violence has no place in sports and our two Basketball Federations, which for many years have had excellent relations, should stress that sport is a celebration and union of people. That’s what we and the vast majority of our fans stand for. The few radical and violent people will never win over the many. We condemn all the forms of violence and reward “Fair play”, the official release stated.
