The “game” of Hapoel fans started many hours before tonight’s crucial tip-off (19:00) of Game 3 against AEK, which will provide a ticket to the BCL Final Four as the winner qualifies for a chance to claim the trophy.
The members of AEK’s roster woke up at around 3 in the morning when Hapoel fans went outside their hotel – which in theory was kept secret for security reasons – and for several minutes threw flares into the air and also used kegs, in order to disturb the tranquility of the “yellow and black” and not let them rest for the game today.
Their purpose was obviously achieved as the players and the rest of the team woke up and had to go to training in the morning without the beneficial rest of a good night’s sleep. Ultimately the morning shootaround was called off.
AEK informed the authorities and FIBA about the incident and asked for footage from the hotel’s security cameras so that it was recorded before even reaching the sold-out stadium, where the Hapoel fans are preparing “hell” as they had announced.
