Following Promitheas Patras’ decision to play in the 2023-24 Basketball Champions League, leaving the 7DAYS EuroCup, Peristeri appeared to have changed its mind, focusing now on staying in FIBA’s main European competition.
As announced by the club’s president Giorgos Pantazopoulos on ERA Sport, Vassilis Spanoulis’ team will play once again in the Basketball Champions League after ending the Greek League in 3rd place and losing in the Play-Ins against JDA Bourgogne Dijon.
“The team will play in the Basketball Champions League next year. Today the file will be submitted to the BCL and the team will participate there, as in recent years. We, since we also made our assessment, are certainly satisfied because, for the first time, Peristeri simultaneously achieved these two goals that we set in the summer“, Pantazopoulos said.
He also went on talk about Vassilis Spanoulis, who’s coming off his first season as head coach following a legendary career on the court. “I want to be realistic, no matter how big the risk was, if you know Spanoulis you quickly understand that the risk is small. He is hardworking and methodical, it goes without saying how much he knows basketball”, Peristeri’s president added before confirming that they are “trying to close the deal with Elijah Mitrou-Long” and that they “have to wait for the next few days”.
