Luis Scola’s Varese is making moves for its return to the European scene and brought in Davide Moretti from Victoria Libertas Pesaro.
The former Olimpia Milan 25-year-old combo guard will play under Matt Brase after two seasons in which he had 10.2 points per game in the Italian league. He will replace Giovanni De Nicolao, who left Varese to join Igor Milicic’s Napoli.
Also, Bruno Mascolo parted ways with Happy Casa Brindisi, which is set to face the Rumanian side of CSU Oradea in the Basketball Champions League Qualifiers Tournament 2.
Another player who left his former Italian club is Hugo Invernizzi, who made his return to SIG Strasbourg after more than 10 years. Playing with Treviso in last year’s LBA, the 30-year-old small forward averaged 3.1 points, 2.6 rebounds, and 1.1 assists per game in 14 appearances.
He played in Limoges under Massimo Cancellieri, who welcomed him to Strasbourg. “I know Hugo very well. For me, it is very important to build a relationship of mutual trust with my players. With Hugo, I know that, from this point of view, I will start the season in the right direction. He is a versatile, intelligent player and a game facilitator”, the Italian head coach said.
Both Pallacanestro Varese and SIG Strasbourg are set to play in the 2023-24 Basketball Champions League Qualification Rounds. The red-and-white Italian team will face FMP SoccerBet in the Quarter-Final of the BCL Qualification Round Tournament 2, while the French side is set to participate in Tournament 3, starting with a clash against the Lithuanian participants of Jonava CBet.
