Dario Brizuela exercised the termination clause on his contract to leave Unicaja, the team announced Thursday. Later on the same day, FC Barcelona officially announced the incorporation of the Spanish shooting guard, inking him for three years in the EuroLeague.
Per the press release: “The player Darío Brizuela has exercised the termination clause included in his contract with Unicaja. The shooting guard thus decides to end his time in Malaga, after 3 and a half seasons in which he grew in his game and was a very important piece in winning the Copa del Rey 2023. From Unicaja Baloncesto we wish him the best in his future and we appreciate his professionalism.”
Last April, Brizuela was included in the long list of contract extensions in the aftermath of the team based in Malaga winning the 2023 Copa del Rey. Guided by experienced play-caller Ibon Navarro, his side eliminated both Barca and Real Madrid, before prevailing over Lenovo Tenerife in the Final of the tournament held in Badalona in February. He scored a game-high 27 points in the Quarterfinal win versus the Catalonia giant.
Unicaja re-signed Kendrick Perry, Nihad Djedovic, Melvin Ejim, David Kravish, Tyler Kalinoski, Dario Brizuela, Dylan Osetkowski, and most recently Augusto Lima. Head coach Navarro extended his contract as well.
Following the necessary adjustments dealing with the departure of the 2022 EuroBasket champion with Spain, the Malaga outfit will combine Spain’s Liga Endesa with the third consecutive campaign in the Basketball Champions League. The recent draw set Falco Vulcano Szombathely, Peristeri bwin, and Le Mans as opponents in Group A of the Regular Season.
