After signing former Zalgiris and Valencia guard, Oliver Hanlan, Varese made another significant move by adding the seven-year NBA veteran Willie Cauley-Stein, as officially confirmed.
Huge reinforcement for the Italian club, as the 29-year-old center brings great experience from the NBA league, even though he didn’t fulfill the expectations of being the 6th overall pick in the NBA draft.
The Sacramento Kings selected him in 2015, and he spent four years with the club before moving to the Golden State Warriors. He then played for the Dallas Mavericks and Philadelphia 76ers, while he spent last season in the G League with the Rio Grande Valley Vipers.
Cauley-Stein played 422 regular season games and averaged 8.7 points with 5.9 rebounds in the NBA. He also received All-Rookie Second Team honors in 2016.
In the G League, he played 13 games last season, averaging 8.8 points and 5.7 rebounds.
Now he’ll get the chance to compete in Europe for the first time and will try to help Varese qualify for the Basketball Champions League Regular Season.
