Seeking a final summer signing, namely a backup for starting point guard Andrzej Mazurczak, King Wilki Morskie Szczecin inked a deal with Avery Woodson.

Woodson, 29, a former player of both Butler and Memphis during his NCAA days, has displayed his talents in Europe for most of his career. Previous club continental competitions experience amounts to 17 games played in the FIBA Europe Cup between Telenet Giants Antwerp and Kyiv Basket. An upgrade to the Basketball Champions League fits in the upcoming 2023-24 campaign, as a new player for the team based in Szczecin.

The defending champions of Poland’s Basket Liga earned a direct ticket to the Regular Season of FIBA Europe’s top-tier club continental competition. Drawn in Group D, AEK, Dinamo Banco di Sardegna Sassari, and MHP Riesen Ludwigsburg are the teams to beat for a spot in the Round of 16.

Woodson will be teaming up with Kacper Borowski, Zac Cuthbertson, Jonathan Dunn, Artur Labinowicz, Filip Matczak, Andrzej Mazurczak, Tony Meier, Michal Nowakowski, Morris Udeze, and Maciej Zmudzki.

Marcel Ponitka joins Legia Warszawa

Preparing for the Qualifying Rounds of the Champions League, fellow Poland outfit Legia Warszawa picked up Marcel Ponitka. The 26-year-old combo guard is coming off a one-year spell with Casademont Zaragoza. An earlier stint with Parma-Parimatch included three games played in the 2022 BCL Qualifiers.

Teams gunning for the three remaining spots in the Regular Season will tip off action on September 24. Gameday 1 of the Regular Season will begin on October 17.
