Planning for the 2024-25 and following seasons, Unicaja secured the services of Tyson Perez.

Perez, 27, signed a contract for the next four seasons but will continue with MoraBanc Andorra on a one-year loan, the team announced Wednesday.

Per the press release: Unicaja and MoraBanc Andorra have reached an agreement for the signing of Tyson Perez (2.02 meters, 27 years old) by the Malaga team. The Spanish power forward with Dominican roots has signed for the next four seasons, although he will continue playing this season on loan with the Andorran side.”

After recovering from a serious injury in his left knee and sitting out the entire 2021-22 campaign, Perez was loaned from Andorra to BAXI Manresa and Coosur Real Betis during the 2022-23 season averaging 12.7 points and 7.7 rebounds per contest over 28 appearances. In the latest move, Andorra reversed roles moving to the receiving end of a loan assignment from the Malaga outfit, following the agreement regarding the contract buyout.

“It is a bit strange, but we eventually reached a point where all parties are happy,” the explosive forward described the situation, “It will be good for me to play in Andorra.”

Both Unicaja and Andorra sit at 1-3 in Liga Endesa, early in the 2023-24 edition of Spain’s top-tier division. The team based in Malaga is set to combine the domestic league with continental action in the Basketball Champions League.

Perez has gained the experience of four games played at the international level with Spain between the Qualifiers of the 2022 EuroBasket and the 2023 FIBA World Cup.
