Dinamo Sassari has started the season 0-2 in the Basketball Champions League, and things haven’t progressed well injury terms as well after Ousmane Diop suffered a long-term knee injury which will force him to stay out of the court several months after undergoing surgery.
To compensate for the 23-year-old center’s absence, Piero Bucchi’s team came back on the market by adding the 32-year-old American Taylor Smith, who played with Verona last year in the LBA, averaging 11.2 points and 7.3 rebounds per game before ending the season due to a patellar tendon rupture.
Dinamo Sassari’s General Manager spoke about this situation. “We know the importance of the moment, we know how important it is to work and make up for lost time but we didn’t want to be caught unprepared and after learning of [Ousmane] Diop’s diagnosis we moved immediately to cover ourselves in a fundamental role”, Federico Pasquini commented about Ousmane Diop’s injury.
Later on, he also commented on the Italian team’s official website about the new addition, who came to temporarily replace the 23-year-old. “[Taylor] Smith is an experienced player who has shown that he can be an addition that can be inserted immediately into our system”, he spoke about the former Scaligera Verona player.
The 32-year-old American player stepped on the Basketball Champions League court only once, in the 2022 Qualification Rounds. He then went on to play for Mornar Bar in the FIBA Europe Cup to average 10.3 points, 5.3 rebounds, and 1.5 assists per game over four appearances.
