Szombathely caps off a great night for guests in BCL

Cholet surprised Darussafaka in Istanbul to take the first away win in Basketball Champions League. Dinamo Sassari won in Ludwigsburg, after having 1-9 previous on the road in the competition and now Falco Vulcano Szombathely rounded up a pretty good night for the guests in BCL, with only Unicaja defending it’s home turf.

The Hungarian side defeated Le Mans Sarthe, and did it in a strong fashion, winning 63-81 in France.

And Szombathely even did it with 10 players on the teamsheet and three of them playing under 10 minutes, collecting a total of two points.

However, Marcell Pongo had a blast with 17 points, seven rebounds and six assists for a game-high PIR of 24. Zoltan Perl scored also 17, and added seven assists to his name. Matt Tiby followed them with 13 points, while Antonio Jordano added 12 points.

For the losing side only Matt Lewis was up for the task, scoring 18 points. DeVante Jones was on the verge of a double-double with nine points and eight assists, while Tyran De Lattiebeaudiere added nine points as well.

After tied first half, with the guests having just 31-30 lead, Hungarian side started taking off in the final minutes of the third period, entering the last quarter with a first double digit lead of the game (44-54). They didn’t stop there and doubled the lead midway through the final period (49-69) to put the game to bed.

Szombathely will have a chance to improve the score to 2-2 at home against Peristeri in Round 4 of BCL (21/11), while Le Mans will meet leader of Group A Unicaja (22/11).
