During the Lenovo Tenerife – VEF Riga Basketball Champions League Round 3 clash in Santiago Martin Arena, referee Aleksandar Glisic fell. Following an immediate reaction from the medical staff, he left the court on a stretcher, retiring from the match.
As officially announced, Glisic suffered a season-ending knee injury. “Best wishes for a speedy recovery to #BasketballCL referee Aleksandar Glišić, who suffered a season-ending knee injury in Tenerife this week. Get well soon, Aleksandar!” per BCL.
Glisic fell while running the court during the third quarter while trying to signalize an unsportsmanlike foul. He was immediately approached by Tenerife’s coach Thux Vidorreta and medical staff, and left the court with the audience showing him support.
His colleagues Beniamino Manuel Attard and Josip Jurcevic finished officiating the game, which ended with the victory of the hosts, as Tenerife extended its winning streak to 16 games at home.
