A stunning performance by SIG Strasbourg earned command of Group E of the Basketball Champions League Regular Season.
The third team to reach 60 BCL wins routed Pinar Karsiyaka, 80-65, in Rhenus Sport on Wednesday.
Quinton Hooker paved the way with 16 points, eight assists, four rebounds, and three steals. Phil Booth shared a game-high 16 points. Chaundee Brown Jr. chipped in 11 more points. Nakye Sanders, Leo Cavaliere, Sofiane Briki, and Junior Etou were all sidelined, and experienced swingman Paul Lacombe did not check in from the bench in Gameday 3.
Confidently overcoming multiple issues on the way to 3-0 at the midway point of the double-legged round-robin schedule, the team coached by Massimo Cancellieri was up 18-1 after three minutes. The advantage was reduced to shooting distance in the second quarter but ballooned once more into a safe distance after the break.
The key win was the 60th in FIBA Europe’s top-tier club continental competition. The other two members of the 60-win list are fellow lasting originals Lenovo Tenerife and AEK Betsson. At the domestic level, Strasbourg sits at 4-7 in France’s Betclic Elite.
Ufuk Sarica’s side was coming off three wins in a row across all competitions, including improving to 4-3 in Turkiye Sigorta Basketbol Super Ligi, but dropped to 2-1 in the four-team group. Kelan Martin and Vernon Carey Jr. shared a team-high 15 points, and Errick McCollum had 13 points in the visit to Alsace.
