Latvian Arturs Kurucs is set to add to his experience in the Basketball Champions League and Spain’s Liga Endesa, joining his brother Rodions Kurucs at UCAM Murcia.
Kurucs, 23, penned a contract until the end of the 2024-25 season, the team announced Tuesday. He was released from fellow BCL outfit Promitheas on Monday.
Returning to FIBA Europe’s top-tier club continental competition, Kurucs logged four games played tallying 8.8 points and 1.8 rebounds per contest with the team based in Patras. During a loan stint from Baskonia to VEF Riga in 2019-20, he averaged 10.6 points per contest over 14 appearances.
Coming out of the 2023 FIBA World Cup and contributing to the history-making run of Latvia, his brief experience in Greece’s Stoiximan Basket League featured 6.7 points, 1.5 rebounds, and 1.0 assists per game.
Besides staying in the BCL, he returns to the ACB to build on his 90 appearances as a member of Cazoo / TD Systems / Kirolbet Baskonia from 2018 to 2023.
The Universitarios sit second in Group H of the Champions League Regular Season behind a 3-1 record and also carry an 8-4 tally in Liga Endesa.
Jamal Jones is heading to Promitheas
Strengthening the bid for the top seed in Group B, Promitheas is expected to sign 30-year-old forward Jamal Jones. Meanwhile, in-form Hunter Hale suffered an injury setback and will be sidelined for two months.
Elsewhere in the BCL, SIG Strasbourg retained Nysier Brooks for the rest of the 2023-24 season and released Nakye Sanders. Also, EWE Baskets Oldenburg parted ways with youngster Viktor Lukic-Gavric.
