Despite fighting until the very end and needing a large-deficit victory over BK Opava on the road to conclude Group B in the second position, Promitheas Patras will still advance to the Basketball Champions League Play-Ins but as 3rd. They won 100-97 in the Czech Republic, in overtime.
After a three-game losing streak, their longest ever in the Basketball Champions League’s history, Chris Coffey was huge to give Promitheas the final victory, ending with 25 points (11/16 from two), 9 rebounds, and 5 assists. Anthony Cowan also had an amazing night with 30 points and 11 assists.
Marques Townes, who became on Gameday 5 the first Opava player ever to put up 20+ points and 5+ assists in a BCL game with his 20-point and 5-assist display against Rytas Vilnius, followed with 19 points, 7 rebounds, and 6 assists against the Greek team. Jakub Mokran added a double-double of 14 points and 11 rebounds.
With this result, Opava have lost all six of their games in the BCL this season, with each of the previous five by margins of 20+ points. Their last win in the competition came in their last game of the 2018-19 Regular Season; in that case, it was a 73-71 success over Telekom Baskets Bonn at home.
With Rytas Vilnius beating JDA Bourgogne Dijon at the very last minute, Group B ends with the French team already qualified for the Round of 16, the Lithuanian side advancing to the Play-Ins stage as 2nd and Promitheas in the 3rd position. BK Opava was already eliminated.
