Bursaspor needed a win to stay alive in Group F. They found a way to beat Hapoel Holon in the last seconds, but it wasn’t enough.
Shawn Dawson gave Hapoel Holon the lead with seven seconds on the clock, but Johnathan Hamilton drew a foul in the last second, and with two precise free throws, handed Bursaspor a hollow 74-75 victory at Arena Riga.
Eventually, Rio Breogan defeated Telekom Baskets Bonn and left Bursaspor at the bottom of the standings thanks to a point differential. All teams had the same 3-3 record in the end, but Bonn went through to the Round of 16 as first, Hapoel moved to the Play-Ins as second, and Breogan as third.
As far as the game goes, Anthony Brown led the winning side with 26 points, shooting 6/11 from beyond the arc, and grabbing 11 boards, Johnathan Hamilton added 15 points, Omer Utku Al 12, while Michael Young was also in double digits with 10 points.
Dawson had 17 points for Hapoel, Justin Smith was just a point behind with 16, while Hans Vanwijn and C.J. Harris added 11 points each.
Before the game, Hapoel added young guard, Ben Altshuler, on a season-and-a-half loan from the Italian club Stella Azura. The 17-year-old developed through the children’s and youth departments of Maccabi Tel Aviv, but a year and a half ago transferred to a prestigious Italian academy.
