Following Chris Dowe’s injury, Derthona Basket needed a replacement in the fight for the Top-8 in the Italian league, heading also to the next round in the Basketball Champions League.
After his official departure from Buducnost in the BKT EuroCup and ABA League, Marco Ramondino’s team decided to pick up Colbey Ross, who shone in Italy with Pallacanestro Varese, also wanted by Luis Scola.
In last year’s LBA, in fact, the 25-year-old was named the Regular Season MVP by averaging excellent numbers under head coach Matt Brase in Varese: 17.5 points, 4.4 rebounds, and 7.5 assists per game shooting 55.5% from two-point range and 38.8% from beyond the arc.
He will play once more in the Basketball Champions League, where he already spent some time with CEZ Nymburk in the 2021-22 season. Derthona, who debuted in the European competition this season, managed to conclude its group with a 5-1 record but ultimately ended up getting to the Play-Ins.
His Buducnost experience lasted only a few months after getting attention from EuroLeague teams and eventually signing with the Montenegrin team back in the summer of 2023. He put up 5.2 points, 3.1 assists, and 1.1 rebounds per game in the 2023-24 BKT EuroCup.
