BCL Play-Ins Week 3 Recap: Round of 16 games are coming

After tonight’s matchups that saw Cholet Basket and Pinar Karsiyaka advance to the Round of 16 by respectively beating Dinamo Sassari and Rio Breogan, the picture of the next stage of the 2023-24 Basketball Champions League campaign.

On Tuesday, MHP Riesen Ludwigsburg, Hapoel Holon, and Tofas Bursa got their Round of 16 by getting over Darussafaka, Filou Oostende, and PAOK. “Five of the eight best-of-three series needed to be resolved in a tie-breaking Game 3”, the Basketball Champions League added.

Craig Randall pushed Cholet with 24 points, while both Vitto Brown and Darrun Hilliard had 17 points each to give Pinar Karsiyaka the victory. Jayvon Graves had an all-around night of 21 points, 4 rebounds, and 8 assists for MHP Riesen Ludwigsburg, Justin Smith went close to the double-double with 28 points and 9 rebounds for Hapoel Holon, while Austin Wiley dominated with 17 boards against PAOK.

As revealed in a press release by the Basketball Champions League, “For the first time since the Play-Ins became a part of the competition’s format, in the 2021-22 season, four of the eight Play-Ins winners did not have homecourt advantage in their respective series”.

“The Round of 16 will get underway next week, on Tuesday, January 23, and will follow a round-robin format, in home and away games. It is set to conclude on March 20, with the two teams that finish in the top two spots in each group qualifying for the Quarter-Finals”, the press release added.
