Bonn pulls away in the fourth quarter to beat Galatasaray

A 1-0 start for Telekom Baskets Bonn in Group J of the Basketball Champions League.

Creating separation in the fourth period secured a win, 89-76, against Galatasaray Ekmas in Telekom Dome on Tuesday.

An earlier double-digit advantage was not enough for the team coached by Roel Moors in Gameday 1 of the Round of 16. Finally delivering a knockout blow, the double-digit distance was restored down the stretch and peaked at 16 points behind a 10-0 run.

Glynn Watson Jr. scored a game-high 23 points. Sam Griesel chipped in 20 points alongside seven rebounds, two assists, and one steal. Thomas Kennedy had 16 points to go with eight rebounds, four assists, two steals, and two blocks. Benedikt Turudic and Florian Koch were on the injury list.

Falling short of a fifth straight win in the BCL, Corey Walden and Akwasi Yeboah shared a team-high 15 points for the visitors. Head coach Zvezdan Mitrovic missed Jarell Martin, Ismet Akpinar, and Goksenin Koksal in Germany.

Postgame press conference

The defending BCL champions face fellow German side MHP Riesen Ludwigsburg in Gameday 2 next Tuesday, after visiting Syntainics MBC in Round 18 of the easyCredit BBL Regular Season and looking to go up to 11-8 in the domestic league on Friday.

JDA Dijon is the Gameday 2 opponent for the Lions on Tuesday. At 8-9 in the Regular Season of Turkiye Sigorta Basketbol Super Ligi, playing at home against Aliaga Petkimspor presents the opportunity to balance the record on Saturday.
