Following the replacement of Joan Plaza, a new spark was expected for AEK, at least in the Basketball Champions League.
However, the first game of Ilias Zouros on the black-and-yellow bench came up in a 79-68 defeat in Hungary at the hands of Hapoel Holon.
Justin Smith was probably the best player on the court for the winning side with 17 points and 6 rebounds, followed by leading scorer CJ Harris, who ended with 19 points. Netanel Artzi had also an impressive showing with 16 points (5/6 FG) and 5 rebounds.
Chasson Randle tried to keep AEK afloat by leading the team in scoring with 22 points but had to leave the court after committing 5 fouls.
After debuting in the Basketball Champions League last week against Promitheas, Brandon Knight had 12 points in the losing effort with the Israeli team.
After getting an easy route in the Regular Season but losing both Ben McLemore and Mfiondu Kabengele, AEK is now 0-2 in the Basketball Champions League Round of 16 Group L.
