It was an offensive-minded night for SIG Strasbourg’s backcourt, but Unicaja Malaga escaped with a 79-70 victory from its trip to France.
Shooting 6/7 from the field and 3/3 from beyond the arc, Kendrick Perry dragged the Andalucian team with 15 points. Melvin Ejim also added 10 points and 5 rebounds, while both Kameron Taylor and Dylan Osetkowski scored 13 points each.
With this victory, Ibon Navarro’s team not only go up 3-0 in Group I to stay unbeaten – while Massimo Cancellieri’s side is still winless at the bottom -, but they also give continuity to away victories in France in the Round of 16: they’re now 3-0 in their last three French encounters in such a phase.
Playing the best game of his SIG Strasbourg’s experience so far, Tyrus McGee had 21 points on 8/12 from the field. He was assisted by Nysier Brooks – who had 17 points and 6 rebounds – and Phil Booth – who tried to contribute with 12 points and 6 assists. Quinton Hooker had 15 points off the bench.
The French side had a huge contribution from its starters but lacked in points scored off the bench. Unicaja was better by 11 points (28-17) in this aspect. Winning in Strasbourg, Kendrick Perry and teammates shot 11/25 from deep, while the home side had 5/15 from beyond the arc.
Waiting for the clash between Tofas Bursa and Cholet Basket on Wednesday, Unicaja can now already dream of getting once more to the Basketball Champions League Quarter-Finals, while SIG Strasbourg is very close to elimination in the Round of 16.
