After 15 lead changes, Pinar Karsiyaka takes the lead for good midway through the third period

In a battle of 0-2 teams in the Round of 16 of the Basketball Champions League, Pinar Karsiyaka protected its home court opposite Peristeri bwin.

KSK prevailed, 93-88, in Gameday 3 and jumped to 1-2 in Group K on Wednesday.

Tallying 11 points in the fourth quarter, Vitto Brown was key in retaining the lead and ended up with a game-high 23 points. Banking in 5/9 triples fueled a team total of 12/24. A massive improvement for the team coached by Ufuk Sarica after being limited to 1/9 in the first quarter.

Behind nine points in the fourth period, Vernon Carey Jr. combined 15 points and 11 rebounds to register his third double-double in the 2023-24 installment of the Champions League. Kenan Sipahi banked in 18 points with 7/9 field goals. Darrun Hilliard threw in 18 more points and shared a team-high five assists with Errick McCollum.

For the team coached by Vassilis Spanoulis, Joe Ragland posted an 18-point, 11-assist double-double in Karsiyaka Arena. Trevor Thompson produced 14 points, seven rebounds, four assists, two blocks, and one steal. Jaylen Hands (adductor) remained on the injury list.

The team based in Izmir sits fourth in the Turkiye Sigorta Basketbol Super Ligi at 13-6. Moving to Round 20 of the Regular Season sets up a home fixture versus Darussafaka Lassa on Saturday. A four-game winning streak in Greece’s Stoiximan Basket League lifted Peristeri to 11-6 and third place before meeting Lavrio Megabolt on Sunday.

Both sides also play domestic cup competitions during a three-week break, before the BCL Round of 16 resumes in early March.
