In Gameday 4 of the Basketball Champions League Round of 16, AEK will welcome Hapoel Holon behind closed doors.
The Greek club relayed the BCL decision on Friday. The contest is scheduled for next Tuesday.
Already serving a sanction leading to the partial closure of the Ano Liossia Olympic Hall throughout the 2023-24 edition of the Champions League, the Queen will play the next home game behind closed doors due to security reasons. Consequently, the Queen requested holders of season tickets to not attend.
With the Israeli club seeking a venue for home games during the war on their home soil, the option to play in Athens, welcomed by AEK, emerged as an option. However, the initial decision was withdrawn following protests from supporters of the Greek club.
The team coached by Amit Sherf went on to hold all three home fixtures of the Regular Season in Arena Riga. Moving from the capital of Latvia to Szombathely’s Arena Savaria shaped the home venue from the Play-In series against Filou Oostende through to the Round of 16.
At the midway point of Group K, the Gameday 4 opponents are on the wrong end of the standings behind UCAM Murcia and Promitheas. With the top two teams advancing to the Quarterfinals, the Universitarios carrying a spotless 3-0 record and the Patras outfit following at 2-1 opposite Holon’s 1-2 and AEK’s 0-3, the losing side of the approaching meeting will be on the brink of elimination.
