On the first game of this year’s Basketball Champions League Round of 16, Cholet Basket beat SIG Strasbourg to win the French derby. Tonight, Massimo Cancellieri’s team found its revenge to stay alive in the qualifying race for the Quarter-Finals, winning 96-84.
Leo Cavaliere led his team in scoring with 18 points, shooting 7/10 from the field. Former Hapoel Holon and Galatasaray‘s guard Tyrus McGee added 10 points, 3 rebounds, and 6 assists.
Phil Booth, who was Strasbourg’s leading scorer in four of their previous five BCL games, including the reverse fixture against Cholet, when he had 17 points, ended with 7 points and 4 assists. Nysier Brooks went close to a double-double with 12 points and 8 rebounds.
On the other side, Basketball Champions League leading scorer Vojtech Hruban had his team’s highest-scoring contribution with 17 points in the losing effort.
TJ Campbell added 14 points and 4 assists with 4/6 from three-point range. Emmanuel Nzekwesi had 15 points, 7 rebounds, and 4 assists.
After four consecutive defeats, SIG Strasbourg finally broke its losing streak in the Round of 16, staying alive in the qualifying race also thanks to Unicaja Malaga’s victory over Tofas Bursa earlier in the day.
