In a meeting of teams from Germany’s easyCredit BBL, the reigning Basketball Champions League champion Telekom Baskets Bonn prevailed, 85-81, against MHP Riesen Ludwigsburg on Wednesday.
A win in MHP Arena clinched the top seed in Group J of the Round of 16.
Making 6/7 from the field in the Gameday 6 affair, Savion Flagg ended up with 16 points, including seven points in the fourth quarter as his side finished with a 5-1 record in the four-team group. Glynn Watson Jr. tallied 12 of his team-high 17 points in the second half. Thomas Kennedy piled up 15 points, nine rebounds, and two assists. Recent signing Lars Thiemann suited up but fell shy of his professional debut. Benedikt Turudic remained on the injury list for the team coached by Roel Moors.
The third loss in as many meetings with German clubs in the Champions League for Ludwigsburg. Recording 23 points with 8/16 field goals, Silas Melson matching his best scoring performance across all competitions in the 2023-24 season was not enough for Josh King’s side to avoid falling to 3-3 and ranking second. Jonathan Bahre scored seven of his 13 points in the fourth quarter en route to sharing a game-high efficiency rating of 24 with Flagg. Yorman Polas Bartolo and Michael Hughes were ruled out.
