Landing in Malaga early in the morning, a few hours after topping the Basketball Champions League Final Four in Belgrade, Unicaja promptly organized a championship parade and released details for further celebrations on Monday.
Per the press release: “After the historic conquest of the first Basketball Champions League champion title, it is time to celebrate with Málaga. That afternoon, starting at 5:30 p.m. Unicaja will tour the city in an open-top bus to share the joy of being champions with all the people of Malaga.”
In a relatively quick turnaround from the buzzer and lifting the BCL trophy in Belgrade Arena, Unicaja traveled from the capital of Serbia to the city of Andalusia.
Leading into the championship parade, players and coaches of the BCL champions will go from Sports Center Los Guindos to the city center. Stopping at Plaza de la Marina, they will share emotional moments with team supporters from the terrace of the Unicaja Banco. From there to the City Hall to meet with officials and connect once more with gathered fans. The Sanctuary of the Virgin of Victory was announced as the final stop.
A rematch of the Champions League Final at Santiago Martin against host Lenovo Tenerife follows on the schedule for the team coached by Ibon Navarro, on Wednesday. Heading to Round 31 of Spain’s Liga Endesa Regular Season, the Malaga outfit carries a 25-5 record and trails leading Real Madrid’s 26-5 by half a game.
