Peristeri beat Aris 75-71 in the single game that decided the third spot in the final standings of the Greek League and in the aftermath of the night, Vassilis Spanoulis announced he is leaving the club he led to the Basketball Champions League Final Four.

In a unexpected turn of events, and despite previous information about a deal for next season, Spanoulis explained that this is not the case.

As he said: “We had a conversation with the management and my contract with Peristeri is over. We had a meeting and unfortunately the management does not want to proceed with the plan we have. Nobody can say how much money each one will get.

I will concentrate on the very big responsibility we have in the Greek National Team and let’s not poison the National Team with various comments. We are Greeks and we must support the Greek team.

The only way for Greek basketball to rise is unity. Let’s put our egos and fandoms in second place. We all have to be together in successes and failures. We are one”.

Spanoulis also congratulated Panathinaikos for winning the EuroLeague closing one of these intrigues as Panathinaikos affiliated media had accused him in recent days that he didn’t do it on purpose during his statement in the semifinals against Olympiacos.

Spanoulis closed his chapter in Peristeri by winning also the Basketball Champions League coach of the year award.
