Amid adjustments across the roster and coaching staff, MHP Riesen Ludwigsburg reunited with John Patrick on Wednesday. The American-German play-caller signed a two-year contract to return to the head-coaching role.

Patrick, 56, was the boss from 2013 to 2022. A long and successful spell with multiple solid showings in the Basketball Champions League and Germany’s easyCredit BBL. Over the last two years, he moved to Japan to take over the Chiba Jets. His efforts culminated in the team based in Funabashi winning the East Asia Super League championship in March.

“It is very nice to be back in Ludwigsburg. It is also nice to be working here again,” he said, “I followed MHP Riesen whenever possible over the past two years.”

Under the guidance of Patrick, the German club reached the BCL Final Four in 2018 and 2022. After his departure, exits in the 2023 Play-Ins and the 2024 Playoffs ended respective campaigns.

The 2023 BCL champion, Telekom Baskets Bonn picked up Rivaldo Soares, a rookie out of Oklahoma. The 24-year-old American swingman penned a one-year contract, the team announced on Wednesday. The German side coached by Roel Moors previously added Darius McGhee, Jonathan Bahre, and youngster Janne Mueller. Also, Lars Thiemann penned a contract extension.

Preparing for the 2024-25 edition of the Champions League, Bertram Derthona Tortona parted ways with longtime captain Riccardo Tavernelli on Thursday. The 33-year-old Italian point guard spent the last five years at the Italian club.
