European basketball veteran forward Will Thomas announced his retirement from basketball at 37. Thomas spent his entire career in Europe, starting from Liege in 2008 and finishing this year with Unicaja Malaga.

Throughout his career, Thomas won two of the three biggest continental titles: The EuroCup in 2019 with Valencia and the 2024 Basketball Champions League with Malaga. In 2017 he was a member of a monumental Valencia year that saw the team claiming both the Spanish ACB championship and the SuperCup for the first time in club history.

Thomas also played in 179 games through six EuroLeague seasons, representing Malaga, Valencia, Zenit St. Petersburg and AS Monaco.

Here’s what Thomas wrote on Instagram:

“It has been a long journey for a young kid from Baltimore just trying to learn the game of basketball to become a 16 year pro with multiple individual and team accomplishments,” Thomas wrote in his announcement. “After 30 years of playing the game of basketball, I’ve decided to retire.”

“I wouldn’t have made it this far without my support system which is my close family and friends. I want to thank them for the incredible sacrifices they have made along the way to help me to succeed.

I also want to thank all the organizations, coaches, teammates, that I had the opportunity to work with and build life long relationships with.

Thank you, basketball…”
