Another huge boost for MoraBanc Andorra. Sekou Doumbouya inked a one-year contract, the team announced on Sunday.
Doumbouya, 23, placed alongside Ferran Bassas, Nikos Chougkaz, Shannon Evans, Ben Lammers, and Chumi Ortega on the list of summer signings.
Besides rebuilding the roster heading to the 2024-25 edition of Spain’s Liga Endesa, the new season starts in the Qualification Rounds of the Basketball Champions League. Andorra clashes with Windrose Giants Antwerp in the Quarterfinals of a six-team tournament in September. Only one ticket to the Regular Season is available among Andorra, Antwerp, Dinamo Banco di Sardegna Sassari, Juventus, Spartak Office Shoes, and Telekom Baskets Bonn. The advancing team will join AEK Betsson, Maccabi Ironi Ramat Gan, and VEF Riga in Group E.
In 2019, Doumbouya was selected by the Detroit Pistons with the 15th overall pick of the annual NBA draft. He recorded 96 appearances between the Pistons and Los Angeles Lakers before being limited to options outside of the league. Returning to France, he played for Roanne last season, tallying 21.2 points and 4.9 rebounds per contest over 13 appearances in France’s Betclic Elite.
Signing with Limoges CSP for the 2018-19 campaign, he recorded eight appearances in the 7DAYS EuroCup, before moving his talents to the NBA. Developing his talents, he featured for Union Poitiers Basket 86 in the second-tier division of France from 2016 to 2018. In 2015-16, he played for INSEP in the Adidas Next Generation Tournament and with CFBB. At the international level, he represented France in the 2016 FIBA U18 European Championship, winning a gold medal and earning a spot on the All-Tournament Team.
