Trying to keep the vast majority of its winning core, Unicaja Malaga made official the contract extension of Yankuba Sima, set to stay around in Andalucia for two more years, until 2026.

Joining Ibon Navarro’s team during the 2022-23 season after parting ways with Reyer Venice during the year, he couldn’t help his team at the Basketball Champions League Final Four host in Malaga, where Unicaja first lost to Telekom Baskets Bonn and then to Lenovo Tenerife.

This year, instead, the green-and-purple side got its revenge in the Basketball Champions League Final Four 2024 in Belgrade, lifting the trophy in the Stark Arena; in the 2023-24 campaign, Yankuba Sima has averaged 6.0 points and 2.1 rebounds per game.

Before playing for Unicaja, he was part of that joyful BAXI Manresa team capable of making it to the Basketball Champions League Final Four 2022, alongside Chima Moneke and Sylvain Francisco; he also spent a few months in Italy with Reyer Venice starting the 2022-23 season.

Included in the Spanish national team’s preliminary roster ahead of the FIBA Olympic Qualifying Tournament 2024 in Valencia, he was cut later on by Sergio Scariolo. With Spain, he has played in the FIBA Basketball World Cup 2023 European Qualifiers and the FIBA EuroBasket 2025 Qualifiers.
